Urate is produced by the breakdown of dietary purines and the body's own cells. High values raise the risk of gout and are linked to metabolic syndrome.
The value is affected by diet (red meat, shellfish, alcohol), genetics, and kidney function. During an acute gout attack urate can sometimes be normal.
What does low Uric acid mean?
Low urate is not clinically problematic.
