Estradiol is the most active estrogen and varies sharply through the menstrual cycle. The value gives information about reproductive health, perimenopause, and menopause.
In premenopausal women, interpretation depends on the cycle day the sample is drawn. In men, estradiol is low but still relevant for bone density.
What does low Estradiol mean?
Low estradiol in premenopausal women can suggest ovarian insufficiency or pituitary disorders. After menopause, low values are normal.
What does high Estradiol mean?
High estradiol in men can appear with overweight, liver disease, or certain tumours.
