Iron and blood status

What is Differential?

the breakdown of your white cells

Sample
Whole blood
Fasting
No fasting needed
Turnaround
1 day

The differential breaks white cells into their subtypes - neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. Each type responds differently to different conditions.

The differential gives a more detailed picture than the total white count and helps distinguish bacterial from viral infection, identify allergic reactions, and detect parasitic disease.

What does low Differential mean?

Interpretation depends on which cell type is low and the rest of the panel.

What does high Differential mean?

High neutrophils often point to bacterial infection, high lymphocytes to viral infection, high eosinophils to allergy or parasitic disease.
